Duality
Duality, by Eno Little and Zaylan Washington, is a two-perspective narrative between humans and nature. This project aimed to illustrate the duality between human experience and the natural world. In our ever-evolving world, what is synthetic and natural seems more relevant than ever. We decided to use footage of natural environments with and without the marks of human industrialization. We combined the sound of a heart beating, birds, and various other auditory textures for background audio to illustrate the duality between human experience and natural landscapes. On one screen, a natural mountain landscape is contrasted with the industrial skyline of Chicago. When listening to and viewing this project, we invite the viewer to ponder the relationship between what we perceive as humans and the reality of the natural world. Questions such as What does it mean to be human in our environment? How do non-human elements change or affect our perception? In creating this project, we aimed to illustrate these quandaries visually and auditorily.
